Foil Drive in Newquay, Cornwall

 â€‹

Foil Drive is an electric-assist system fitted to a conventional hydrofoil. It provides controlled, repeatable power to help riders lift onto the foil without relying on wind, waves, or high paddle fitness.

Unlike e-foils, Foil Drive retains the feel and control of a traditional foil setup. The motor assists take-off and recovery, allowing learning time to be spent on balance, height control, and efficient movement rather than exhaustion or waiting for conditions.

What is Foil Drive?

Learning to Foil with Foil Drive at Surf Sanctuary

Surf Sanctuary offers structured Foil Drive coaching from our base at the Headland in Newquay. Sessions are led by experienced instructors and delivered in sheltered deep-water locations that allow high repetition and conservative safety margins.

By removing the usual environmental barriers to foiling, Foil Drive allows faster, calmer progression for a wider range of people

Much of our Foil Drive activity takes place in the Gazzle, a sheltered deep-water basin a short walk from Surf Sanctuary. It offers deep water at all tides, protection from swell, and clear access and exit points.

This allows foiling to be taught in flat water, away from surf-zone hazards, while remaining close to town beaches and harbour facilities if required.

We offer a range of Foil Drive experiences, from introductory sessions through to multi-day progression clinics. All equipment is provided and sessions are adapted to conditions and individual ability.
