TOURING SUP
Two-hour coastal tours // min. recommended age 12
SUP touring offers a rare sense of freedom — like cross-country skiing, it opens up whole landscapes, but with the added magic of ever-changing water and light. From our base at The Headland, we’re perfectly placed to launch into the rugged beauty of the ‘Gazzle’ cliffs. If the sea’s a little too lively, we switch effortlessly to the tranquil, tree-lined River Gannel, a hidden gem and a world away from it all.

This isn’t just a paddle; it’s an introduction to true watermanship. You’ll learn to work with the natural forces of wind and tide, developing your ability to read the conditions and choose your route. We introduce ideas like hormesis — the benefits of mild challenge — and encourage a sense of self-agency, where your decisions and movements become part of the journey.

Expect to build real skills and confidence in a supportive setting. You'll discover:
-
How to paddle across moving water and navigate wind conditions
-
The meaning and use of 'collecting' and 'tick-off' features for route planning
-
What to include in a drybag and how to set up basic shore-based support
-
The calm focus and adventure that comes from navigating the natural world on your own terms

All equipment is provided, and your guide will adapt the route and pace to suit the conditions and the group.
We’re proud to be national trainers for BSUPA (British Stand Up Paddleboarding Association), and we literally write the manuals. This means you’re learning from the very best: people who train the trainers and help shape the direction of the sport across the UK.

FAQ's
Is it suitable for beginners?
Yes — as long as you're comfortable on the water and open to learning, you’ll get a lot out of this session. We take time to introduce techniques at your pace, and the environment (coastal or river) is chosen based on the day’s conditions.
Do I need to be super fit?
Not at all. Touring SUP is steady and low-impact, a bit like going for a hike — but on water. It’s more about rhythm and awareness than brute strength. The boards are stable and designed for distance.
What if the sea is too rough?
That’s part of the adventure — we’ll relocate to the sheltered River Gannel, where we can still cover distance, practice technique, and enjoy nature from a different perspective.
Will I fall in?
It’s always a possibility — and part of the fun! But the boards we use are wide and stable. If you do fall in, it’s easy to climb back on, and you’ll be in a wetsuit and buoyancy aid.
What’s the minimum age?
We recommend 12 and up for touring SUP. Younger paddlers might find the distance and conditions a bit demanding, but we can discuss options for family sessions.
What do I need to bring?
Just swimwear for under your wetsuit, a towel, and something warm to wear afterwards. If you’d like to bring a drybag with snacks, a phone, or an extra layer, we’ll show you how to pack it securely.
Do you offer qualifications?
Yes — if you're interested in taking things further, we can offer BSUPA Level 1 & 2 training, instructor pathways, and bespoke water confidence coaching. Just ask.
What makes you different from other providers?
We don’t just run sessions — we train the national instructors, write the manuals, and help shape the future of paddleboarding. You’re in expert hands from start to finish, and we adapt everything to make sure your time on the water is safe, challenging in the right ways, and deeply rewarding.
