The Vehicle Surf Club

ABOUT THE VEHICLE...

Surfing, adventure, and connection — for men who want to look after their mental and physical health

The Vehicle is a men's surf club based in Cornwall, bringing together the three big pillars of wellbeing: nature, exercise, and good people.

We meet every Saturday at 10 am at Surf Sanctuary, located at The Headland Hotel, Newquay. Sessions run for around two hours and are designed to be relaxed, supportive, and accessible to all abilities — from complete beginners to experienced watermen.

The Vehicle is a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), Company No. 16026733.

Why "The Vehicle"?
The name "The Vehicle" reflects what surfing and ocean sports offer: a vehicle for promoting and protecting your mental and physical wellbeing.

We believe that real, long-lasting benefits come when we engage with powerful natural experiences — like surfing a great wave, swimming through clear water, or simply doing something we once thought was beyond us. These experiences light up the brain in a way that few other activities can. Personally, I believe this might even activate the 5HT2A serotonin receptor, which is linked to positive shifts in perspective and a sense of connection to the world around us.

But The Vehicle is also about the journey — a symbol of the skills, knowledge, and confidence you’ll build over time in the ocean. You don’t have to wait for the "wave of a lifetime." From the first day you show up, you’re making a contribution to your long-term health. Every small effort — just turning up, paddling out, or being in the water — gathers value over time, like a pension for your wellbeing, with compound interest you’ll cash in later in life.

Our Logo — The Work Truck
Our logo features a simple work truck, not a flashy VW campervan or an overland 4WD. This is deliberate.

The work truck represents being of service — a parallel to the ordinary man who shows up for others. He might not look slick or have all the gear, but he’s dependable. He’s a father, son, brother, friend, husband, colleague, or neighbour. He may not be wealthy, successful, or loud, but when you need a hand, he’s the one who’s there.

If there were a crisis, and the car park was full of shiny cars but one battered old van was parked in the corner — you'd know which one had the tools to help when it matters most.

Through The Vehicle, men can be of service to themselves by looking after their own mental and physical wellbeing. But it goes further:

Of service to their families and communities, by becoming healthier, calmer, and more resilient.

Of service to each other, by building a welcoming, supportive environment in the water.

Of service to others in the ocean, by learning surf safety, ocean awareness, and life-saving skills — knowledge that could one day save a life.

What to Expect at a Session
We meet every Saturday at 10 am at Surf Sanctuary (The Headland Hotel).

Sessions usually start with a brief chat and theory session — covering things like surf skills, ocean awareness, or goal-setting. We’ll assess the conditions together and set some simple aims for the session.

Surfing is our main activity, but when conditions are right, we also go coasteering, snorkelling, and practise surf lifesaving skills.

Location: All activities take place on beautiful Fistral Beach and the nearby Gazzle coastline.
Duration: Sessions last around two hours.
First session is free, and it’s £10 per session after that — no commitment, no pressure to attend every week.

Who Can Join?
We welcome any men in Cornwall, of any ability — whether you’ve never been in the sea or are a seasoned surfer.

If you have any specific needs or requirements, let us know — we’ll do what we can to accommodate you.

How We Work
We keep things simple and inclusive. No egos, no cliques — just a solid crew looking to enjoy the ocean and support each other.

Our simple code (without sounding preachy):

Turn up on time.

Do as much or as little as you like.

Be good to everyone around you.

Don’t judge anyone.

Have a laugh.

Stay Connected
Once you’ve joined a session, we’ll invite you to our WhatsApp group to stay in touch, share session updates, and plan for the weeks ahead.
