You do hear all sorts of scare stories about the locals throwing stones at visiting surfers and car breaks ins and so on, and whilst I’m sure there’s no smoke without fire and that the Latino Islanders can be very protective of certain waves, the vibe in the water in these mellow waves was rather relaxed and jovial.
The Canarian SUP adventure continues with a full day out at a bouncy, textured left-hand point break. I took some of my more interesting surf photos at this spot.
The thing is though, Lanzarote, unlike much of Europe, has no continental shelf sapping the energy from the waves. So what may have been a head high swell when it hits the UK looks a lot like this when it slams into the lava reefs of Lanza…
