Bennet & Moore’s Wave Master Clinics!
2 CommentsBennet & Moore’s Wave Master Clinics
I am most delighted to announce that Will Bennet and I are running two 1 week Wave Master clinics this year in Cornwall, and the first one kicks off June 4th! We have designed these clinics especially for kitesurfers who want to build confidence and knowledge in all areas so that they can get the very best from their time in the water…basically we’re throwing everything we know into these courses!
The idea to run these clinics came to us last year and this inspired my six week trip to Hawaii to learn new skills and ideas that I could adapt and pass on to kitesurfers; I learned some incredible techniques that consolidated my own experiences and I’m now ready to pass this on. Will Bennet is the reigning and four time BKSA Wave Master champion, owner instructor at Atlantic Riders and universally regarded as one of the most capable and stylish riders in the game, especially with his mystical ability to ‘shift gears’ when conditions really turn on. Between us we have over 25 years experience in surfing and have been kiting since it really got going properly in the UK. We know as well as anyone about the world class conditions Cornwall can deliver, and false modesty aside, our knowledge of the local beaches and tucked away spots is unrivalled.

Will Bennet can help you perfect all areas of strapless surf-kiting. Here he is delivering the good news at Daymer Bay.
The first clinic will be run from the 4th till the 11th June, in Newquay, Cornwall. You will arrive on the Saturday, epxerience five full days training from Monday to Friday, and leave the following Saturday feeling fitter, stronger and more revved up than ever before. Accommodation is at The Square House, a fantastic, big, comfortable house complete with BBQ area and parking and ideally positioned for foot-access to Newquay’s beaches. Watergate Bay is just a ten minute car drive away, every where else about 45 minutes.
What’s involved
The format of the clinic is straightforward – we’ll work with you to establish what you really want to learn and then we do whatever the conditions are best for each day. If it’s kiting weather, we’ll be on it! If the waves are up but there’s no wind, we break out the surfboards or Stand Up Paddle boards – don’t worry if you’ve never surfed or SUPd before, we can get you going from scratch. If there’s no wind and no waves, we’ve got some incredible sea-based training activities up our sleeves which will bring your water potential on to a whole new level! We’ll also be visiting a surfboard shaper’s factory and checking out different types of breaks. Everything is maximised to improving your performance. There are ‘modules’ that we’ll cover through the clinic to give you the necessary background knowledge, but where possible, the classroom is gonna be on the beach!
Each evening, you will flop into bed thoroughly surfed and stoked out, and you’ll awake each morning ready to charge into a new day’s adventure.
Who can benefit from the clinics?
The clinics have a very broad appeal to benefit riders spanning a wide range of abilities and expectations. Topics and techniques covered will help riders progressing from twin tips to their first go out in waves, kiters already on surfboards who want to learn strapless techniques or specific tricks up to competition level, riders looking to increase confidence in charging larger waves, riders seeking a greater understanding of the forces at work in the ocean, and kitesurfing instructors looking to introduce wave riding into their school syllabus.
You will learn about:
Board and kite skills (including all aspects of strapped and strapless waveriding – gybes, top turns, floaters, bottom turns, etc…)
Wave reading skills
Charging bigger waves!
Different kites and their characteristics
Surfboard design and manufacture

A typical day will include…
You’ll wake up, sort yourself out with coffee, tea, juice etc…and then we’re off for an easy jog to the beach (either 2 mins or 5 mins away) where we’ll assess the day’s conditions and run through some simple training and lung expansion exercises.
Then it’s back to the house for brekky, selecting the best beach and determining the day’s objectives. We’ll load up the kit, hit the beach and run through the ‘class room’ stuff and then we’ll hit the water for the session after a briefing. You can return to the beach during the session as often as you like for extra coaching and feedback from Will and I. We’ll also do our best to ensure we get some cracking photos and video footage of your time on the water.
Back at the house, you’ll have the evenings to yourself to either wander into town, or relax at home and watch surfing and kiting DVDs and TV, use the WiFi, read surfing books, kite mags and so on. For grinds, you can either arrange a cooking rota with your fellow riders or eat out at some great places close by.
Basic requirements
This course is for kitesurfers looking to crack into wave riding, or to build on an existing skill base. You don’t need to already ride a surfboard with your kite, we can show you that. You don’t need to be able to surf either, but you will be able to do the following:

The clinics are very open in their agendas, and with a full week and no more than ten participants we can focus on specific areas that you want to work on, no matter how basic or advanced your requirements.
